This project evolved out of a project run by Lion Murray Fletcher’s original activities. He came to the club for some assistance as he was struggling. Little did we know that he had ill health was failing. Upon his passing the Club decided to continue his legacy of refurbishing them and providing low cost computers to the community and third world countries.

After much research through his records, the assistance of his volunteers and much trial and error we managed, particularly with the hard work of Lion Diane Taylor, we have successfully transitioned into a business fulfilling Murray’s desires.

Process

We acquire computers and other electronic equipment from companies that are updating their outdated equipment, donations from the communities and local shires plus others.

The computers are then totally cleared, cleaned and reformatted.

The ones that are too old or not working are broken down into individual pieces to be recycled as e-waste.

The reformatted computers are then sold off, donated to needy people or sent overseas to third world (disadvantaged communities).

Two shipments went to Africa, a shipment of 20each computers and laptops went to schools in

Lismore area after the floods and others have gone to community groups and individuals.

Requirements

More later model computers that can be easily transition to reuse.

No junk, phones (unless relatively later models),

Assistance with time and knowledge of technology and contacts where more units can be sourced.

The Project is self funded so any support with sponsors or ideas would be appreciated.

We also provide for TAFE to use their skills and experience to work in our workshop, this has led to a couple gaining employment.

Another provision is having students, usually intelligent but needy, with an outlet to learn and use their smarts and assist us in the workshop.
